Analysis of Coatings
FTIR spectroscopy is a valuable method for the analysis of coatings. It allows to identify the chemical identity of the used material and to determine the thickness of coating layers. The method is non-destructive, fast, and precise. Bruker’s ALPHA is an easy to use system for routine quality control and identification of surface coatings. Coatings on small and unevenly shaped samples can be analysed using the fully automated FTIR microscope LUMOS. It allows to monitor the homogeneity of coating with high spatial resolution and to identify small defects and contaminations for effective failure analysis.
Determination of the Degree of Cure of a Varnish
FTIR spectroscopy is a quick and reliable method to measure the degree of cure of paints, varnishes and the like. High quality IR spectra can be recorded in a few seconds; usually there is no need for sample preparation or costs for expensive consumables. Within only a minute FTIR spectroscopy allows drawing a quantitative conclusion about the curing state of the sample.
