Customs Border Control
Customs facilities are the first line of defence against the smuggling of illicit substances in passenger and commercial transport. Explosives and drugs generally pose the greatest threat. Customs controls must therefore be non-destructive and swift.
The solution is the DE-tector Flex and RoadRunner ion mobility sensors (IMS), which are purpose-built for this critical task. The former is a high-performance, ECAC-certified benchtop instrument designed to identify trace amounts of substances. RoadRunner is a handheld version suitable for mobile applications. It weighs less than 3.5 kg and is equipped with spare batteries for extended use.
These detectors can operate in steam mode and sample emissions from materials of interest. Alternatively, to minimise the need to open sealed objects, trace detection measurements can be made using a non-abrasive swab that is wiped on the suspect object. The devices can also be used in addition to customs controls wherever personal security is a concern and where security checks are standard, such as stadiums, prisons, etc.
